Biden hosts a high-profile NYC fundraiser featuring Obama and Clinton, with tickets priced at up to $500K. A lavish event drawing attention.
President Biden and former Presidents Obama and Bill Clinton convened at Radio City Music Hall on Thursday for a grand fundraiser to bolster the incumbent’s 2024 re-election bid.
Hosted by comedian Steven Colbert of CBS’s “The Late Show,” the event featured a moderated discussion among the three Democratic leaders. President Biden, 81, referred to the gathering as a “grassroots fundraiser.”
Among the over 5,000 expected attendees were first son Hunter Biden and other members of the Biden family. The campaign reported that the event significantly boosted the president’s war chest by over $25 million.
Reuters reported that tickets for the event ranged from $250 to $500,000. The most generous donors were offered a photo-op with the three presidents, taken by Annie Leibovitz, and invitations to separate receptions with Biden, Obama, and Clinton.
Comedian and actress Mindy Kaling hosted part of the event, featuring musical performances by Queen Latifah, Lizzo, Ben Platt, Cynthia Erivo, and Lea Michele.
Biden campaign co-chairman Jeffrey Katzenberg and Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour orchestrated the fundraiser.
“The numbers don’t lie: today’s event is a massive show of force and a true reflection of the momentum to reelect the Biden-Harris ticket,” Katzenberg stated.
Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump, present in the Empire State, attended the Long Island wake of slain NYPD Officer Jonathan Diller, leveraging the fundraiser to bolster his own campaign funds.
A Trump campaign fundraising email referenced the Biden-Obama-Clinton event, denouncing attendees as “deranged Hollywood liberals” funding “DESTRUCTION OF OUR COUNTRY.”
“Together we can DROWN OUT their dirty dollars, but it all depends on how much support we get right here, right now,” the email added.
Biden maintains a substantial financial advantage over Trump, despite recent polls indicating Trump’s lead in the 2024 race.
